MARDI GRAS FUN - HHR
STYLE
Feathered masks, beads and colorful clothes filled the
ballroom for our first Mardi Gras party. Gator chips, catfish, red beans
and rice, King cake, Dixieland music, parades, and even a King and Queen
for the evening put everyone in a festive mood. The Mardi Gras committee
THANKS all the great people who attended so enthusiastically!
If you missed the party this year, not to worry! We'll do
it again next year - actually the scheduled date is February 21st. Mark
your calendars.

COMMUNITY NOTICES
A few days ago Linda and I enjoyed our second anniversary here at HHR. We reflected on the conversations we had about our new
community at that time. The comments have always been about the
nice folks in our community. Personally, we can attest as to how
great the people are-our friends, our neighbors, here at HHR. My
recent illness continues to prove how great a place it is to live
here. Many, many thanks for the encouraging words, the cards, the
food, the phone calls and the thoughts you have all expressed.
I am improving daily at a rate the doctor says is quicker than
expected. I hope soon to see you as I can walk the neighborhood and
personally thank you! May God be with you all and your family.
Steve Strubel.

so I know how many to expect. Thanks.
TENNIS
A tennis group gathered in January to watch the Australian Tennis
Open held in Melbourne, Australia. Many of our tennis enthusiasts
showed up to enjoy this function and share in food and drinks. We
hope to continue these gatherings in the future to help promote
tennis at Heritage of Hawk Ridge.
Our leagues will be starting this spring so be on the lookout for
future information. Dust off your tennis racquets and join us!

2008 Trivia Night News

Trivia Night Committee
Just a word of thanks to everyone who helped make Trivia Night a success
this year! We are extremely grateful to everyone who helped move
furniture on Saturday morning and after the game on Saturday night. The
added manpower really helped make set-up and clean-up a breeze!
Trivia Night was sold out this year with 21 teams participating! One
person from every team won their entry fee ($10) back and every team
enjoyed a snack of chicken wings! The trivia game resulted in a tie for
first place! (see how important that estimated score is at the beginning
of the game?) The winners of the trivia game were:
- 1st Place score of 81, estimated score of 75- Stu Cassell’s team
including Stu & Mary Rose Cassell, Carol Knopfel, John Aubuchon, Dave &
Grace Knopfel and John & Sandy Denother.
- 2nd Place score of 81, estimated score of 72- Larry Marten’s team
including Larry & Ginny Marten, Joe & Ellen O’Coin, Joseph O’Coin and
Bill & Joyce Emrick. (not bad for a 7 person team guys!)
- 3rd Place score of 75- Vicki Wolz’s team including Vicki & Rick Wolz,
Steve & Susan Wolz, Peggy & Don Brown and Marty & Debby Worn
Again this year, teams went all out for their decorated tables! The
judging was very difficult, everyone deserved to win. The teams used
creativity and a good sense of humor with their themes. With that being
said, the winners of the best decorated tables category were:
- 1st Place Larry Kruse with his “Highway 40 Construction” theme
(complete with porta potty and team dressed as construction workers)
- 2nd Place Sandy Aubuchon with her “Are We As Smart As We Were In 5th
Grade?” theme (complete with actual re-enactment of how the team really
looked in fifth-grade!)
- 3rd Place Barry Bingham with his “Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs” theme
(complete with Barry being an adorable Snow White along with his 7 cute
dwarfs)
Ray Markham’s team won the Bonus Category with 8 out of 10 correctly
identified acronyms. This category was hard this year…great job guys!
The Dead or Alive game resulted in Carol Knopfel winning first place and
Sue Shatzman winning second place. They really know dead people!
Thank you to everyone who participated this year!
