VETA CAIRNS

VETA CAIRNS

She started out as our emergency fill in lady, but when sudden openings in the office staff schedule required filling, she was there. She always has a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone. Thanks to Jan Bell who was also wonderful to work with and is temporarily away.

INTRODUCING TED RHODES

TED RHODES

Ted Rhodes is our newest staff member, and will be helping around the clubhouse with maintenance and miscellaneous office tasks. Ted lives in Wright City with his wife, and has two grown sons. He retired after serving the City of Bridgeton for over 30 years in their maintenance department. If you get a chance, stop by the clubhouse and say hi to him. Ted will be working on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and on Mondays and Thursdays from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

COMMUNITY NOTICES

Single Friends Lunch- Tuesday, February 12th

Be My Valentine! Come celebrate Valentine’s Day with us at our favorite restaurant, The Cheesecake Factory on Tuesday, February 12th. Ask a friend to join us. Special Valentine favors for all. The bus will leave at 10:30 AM from the Clubhouse. For more information call Pat at 561-1959.

I would like to thank everyone that sent the sympathy cards to us as a very difficult time. It was so wonderful of all of you. My family and I do appreciate the prayers and blessings you have bestowed upon us. Your thoughtfulness will not be forgotten.

Frank & Dianne O’Connor and family

I am pleased to announce that Chester, our swing dance instructor and DJ, will be performing (as a DJ) on a monthly basis at the club house on the first Saturday of each month! He will mix up swing, two step and line dances and he will be offering lessons an hour before each dance! The dances will be held from 7:30 through 10:30 or 11 PM and the dance lessons will be the hour preceeding the dance. These will all be a BYO drinks and snacks and there will be  a $5.00 per person charge paid at the door. The first dance will be the first Saturday in March and I will make sure there are plenty of notices in the mid month and first of the month newsletter and Putterings. Hope to see you all there and I hope to see more of the HHR residents as well. Please note that these dances will be open to the public and all are welcome so invite your dancing friends and we might all learn something new!

January Highlights

Computer Club

The HHR Computer Club held its organizational meeting in late December and a series of beginner classes have been held. Since we have several residents that are willing to teach various subjects, we are looking for input from the residents regarding what to teach and in what order. There will be a folder at the counter at the office and we encourage residents to offer their needs and/or suggestions. Some suggestions are: how to use the Internet, how to use the Internet for research (for best pricing, for best products, to see product reviews, to buy airline tickets, to join a Blog regarding some medical condition, etc.), how to turn off the pop-ups that appear when I am using the Internet, how do I open Email attachments, how do I use Word, how do I format a document in Word, what is Excel and why would I use it, how do I get my new printer to work, how can I put my digital pictures on the computer and how do I send them using Email, and the list goes on and on.

In addition, the following residents have volunteered their time to assist other residents better utilize their computers and help with problems that may arise (and several have already utilized this free service). Please feel free to contact anyone on this list for assistance and if they are unable to assist you, simply go down the list until you find someone that can assist you. If no one is able to resolve  your issue, we will suggest a paid resource through the co-op.

FAST EDDIES - EVEN BETTER NOW!

When we took a group to Fast Eddies and the Argosy Casino in Alton, Illinois on January 5th it was even better than ever! Besides the super cheap great food, all of Illinois indoor public places are SMOKE FREE now. Both the restaurant and the casino banned smoking in compliance with the new Illinois state law. On the left Ellis and Nancy Nelson, along with Len Ketterer and Mary Jane Brinkman enjoyed the inexpensive delicious food and more comfortable environment. Fast Eddies built a new $600,000 outdoor beer garden for smokers. It was warmer inside and we all enjoyed the clean air.

Come Hang Out With The Guys On Saturday Mornings - Pool at 9:00 AM - Everyone Welcome!

New Years Eve 2007.

Elizabeth LaKamp Cabaret Show January 12th.

Our own Jeanne Brown joins the Kevin Mitchell 4 band and plays a half dozen songs with them, beautifully.

Janet Cook is poised to catch Ellen O’Coin should she fall while installing the giant snow flake for the New Years Eve party. Ellen procured lots of the pretty giant snowflakes when Target was getting ready to pitch them last year. Way to go Ellen!
