HHR Weight Watchers Lose
over 400 Pounds!

Just a few short months ago a chapter of Weight Watchers was established at Heritage of Hawk Ridge. Their collective weight loss since then is over 400 pounds. Changing their eating habits and getting more exercise seems to have paid off. A few of the ladies are starting to look like they’re too young to be here! If you’ve been waiting until after the holidays to do something about your weight, why not come up to the clubhouse for one of their Monday meetings. The weigh in is at 9:30 AM, and the meeting starts at 10:00 AM in the card room. You can join at any time, and it’s much easier to try to lose weight with the support of a group - especially when it’s made up of neighbors and friends.

COMMUNITY NOTICES

The annual HHR Progressive dinner, held on Sunday, December 16, was attended by 120 residents.

Mary Ann Bingham, the chair of the committee, would like to thank her committee members, Linda Hanson, Betsy Miller, and Geri DeCarlo, for all of their hard work in making this event a success. She would also like to thank the host families, who graciously opened their homes to their neighbors.

The 14 appetizer hosts were: Geri & Frank DeCarlo, Ann & Tony Zito, Theresa & Ron Maniscalco, Ginny & Ralph Wolfram, Sharon & Sam Huston, Elaine Voight & Daren Brust, Veta Cairns & Delores Behrens, Phyllis & Mike Mitra, Cheryl & Larry Lachalmelle, Sharon & Gary Rhodes, Pat Goddard, Sharon & John Aubuchon, Carol & Larry Knopfel, and Shirley & Larry Kruse. The 14 entrée families were: Joyce & Don Brasier, Mary Ann & Barry Bingham, Marty & Orv Hollrah, Linda & Paul Hanson, Marigene & Jack Murphy, Betsy & Ron Miller, Joan & Len Ketterer, Jean & E.J. Walden, Sandy & Cris Cristea, Shirley & Ed DeAvilla, Joyce & Bill Emrick, Sally & Perry Wood, Vicki & Rick Wolz, and Karen & Jim Singleton.

Many thanks and kudos go to the accordion players, Galen Bird and Ron Miller, teacher Laura Holzen and her students from Fort Zumwalt West, and Betsy Miller and her “Recyled” group for providing the entertainment at the dessert portion of the dinner.

Thanks so much.
Mary Ann

Please remember that the golf course cart path is not to be used for walking during the hours the golf course is open. At this time of year that is Tuesday - Sunday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. This is a mandate from the HHR Association insurance carrier, and is for your own protection.

AND

ADOPT-A-FAMILY PROJECT
AN OVERWHELMING SUCCESS!!

On Christmas morning, 6 children awoke to an awesome visit from Santa Claus. Under their tree were 10 gifts for each child - toys, clothes, shoes, books, candy, cookies, and gift cards. Even Mom was not forgotten by Santa. She found new pajamas, slippers, scarf and gloves, jewelry, candy and other surprises. If it had not been for the generosity of so many here at HHR, their Christmas day would have been bleak, to say the least.

Our Community truly opened their hearts to help a very deserving family that had fallen on hard times this year. We collected over 75 items of new toys and clothing. A special recognition goes out to the HHR Ladies Book Club who donated many new books for the children and a generous gift card to WalMart. In addition, a big THANK YOU goes to one of our residents, Nancy Paulus, for the many brand new Scholastic books she gave to the children.

Many residents helped our project by donating cash. We received $245.00 which we used to purchase some extra things that were not donated and $25.00 in candy and treats for the whole family. Mom’s biggest need was help with paying utilities, so we were able to give her $150 for that purpose.

We participated in this Holiday Hearts project through the Crisis Nursery of St. Charles. They thank you deeply -- and the committee here at HHR thanks you deeply.

A CUP OF CHRISTMAS TEA
This was our 5th Cup of Christmas Tea
Each year this annual event grows bigger and more spectacular. This year Shirley Barnes (left) and the Care & Concern Committee presented a lovely luncheon that opened with a bagpipe player, and featured a fashion show, and prize drawing. Husbands served as waiters. Photos by Dee Snyder.

Our “models” were beautiful and the husbands and friends that helped serve the ladies lunch and tea looked splendid as well. Photos provided by Sharon Huston.
