A BANNER YEAR!

Forgive the pun - above is a picture of a Christmas banner that Bea Smugula brought to the clubhouse as a sample of what residents could make. Bea held 4 classes in Christmas Banner making, yet another example of the great folks here that are willing to share their talents.

COMMUNITY NOTICES

Mission Statement
Heritage of Hawk Ridge
Care & Concern Committee

The Care and Concern Committee of Heritage of Hawk Ridge, along with the help of neighbors, tries to identify the needs of the community’s residents in matters of sickness and loss and provides support in those trying times. The Committee accomplishes this by sending cards and flowers, visiting the residents in their homes and/or hospital, and by providing food and limited transportation.

The Committee also welcomes new residents with information regarding community affairs. It also strives to encourage the well-being of all our community through health and wellness-related education.

SINGLE FRIENDS’ OUTING
Tuesday, December 11th

Invite your friends to join us this month for lunch at the Elephant Bar in West County Mall. A trip to Aherns Nursery will include seeing their magnificent poinsettias trees and displays. The Garden Club went to Aherns this summer and saw in the greenhouse the poinsettias when they were only in 2 pots. Their fabulous gift shop has so many inviting purchases. The bus will leave the clubhouse on Tuesday, December 11th at 10:45 am. Guests are encouraged to attend.

Golfing News

There’s nothing more relaxing
than a fun round of golf.

The Pro-Shop Grill and Golf Course are now open from
8:00 AM to 6:00 PM - Tuesday - Sunday
Closed on Mondays.

Please remember that the golf course cart path is not to be used for walking during the hours the golf course is open. At this time of year that is Tuesday - Sunday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. This is a mandate from the HHR Association insurance carrier, and is for your own protection.

AND

Only licensed drivers 16 years and older may drive a golf cart. This also means kids shouldn’t be sitting on your lap steering the cart.
This is a rule and is for the safety of everyone.

November Highlights

June Baumgartner joins Bea Smugula and Pat Roberts in the Arts & Crafts room for Bea’s Christmas Banner making class. Bea also held a ceramics class earlier this year.

BOWLING FOR DOLLARS!

Twice a month a group of HHR residents go bowling. They play a fun game where each person puts a dollar in the pot and every time someone gets a strike or spare they pick a card. At the end of the game who ever has the best 5 card poker hand wins the pot. Above in the back row from left to right are: Eddie Webber, Judy Jacques, and Roger Richert. In the front row are Helen Roberts, Mary Balestri, Bob Romanin, Mary Dent, and Laverne Meyer. Each time we bowl we pick a different restaurant to eat lunch at following the bowling.

PINOCHLE
On the left are Len Ketterer, Les Allen, Tony Zito, and Amos Klump enjoying their twice a week game of Pinochle.
Donut Social always a crowd pleaser

Each fall and winter we bring back an old Heritage of Hawk Ridge tradition - our Donut Socials! It’s a great time for neighbors and friends to come together at the clubhouse for free coffee and donuts.

This year, thanks to a great idea from Pat Goddard, we added something new - Dominoes! Games like Chicken Foot and Mexican Train were enjoyed by several tables of residents who stayed after the donut social to play. Our December Donut Social is on Thursday, Dec. 13th and we will continue to play games afterwards. If you don’t know how to play a game, someone will be happy to teach you.

Scouting for Food

Thank you Larry Knopfel and all of the volunteers and residents who helped make the HHR collection of canned goods such a great success!

The Greater Saint Louis Area Boy Scouts of America 2007 Scouting for Food Campaign was a huge success. Over 2 million cans of food were collected making it the most successful campaign to date. Our HHR residents once again demonstrated their generosity by donating approximately 1000 cans of food. Scouts from the Boone Trails District placed the collection bags on November 10, 2007 and then returned on November 17, 2007 and collected the filled bags of cans. Thanks again for your very generous giving and I’m sure we can expect to support this event again next year.

Men's Day Out

We started our morning with a delicious breakfast at Bob Evans, followed by a movie, American Gangster. In the top picture are Ray Withey, Gary McCullough, and Larry Knopfel. Middle are Paul Stedman and Jim Singleton. Bottom are: Ellis Nelson, Larry Marten, Charlie Guariglia, and Sam Huston. These outings are always fun.
