Luau 2007

Rain didn’t dampen the setting for a great evening at the Luau on Sept. 8th. The ballroom was transformed into a Caribbean theme. The tables were covered with beach towels for tablecloths. Sand & seashells with candles set the mood.

The Carmen Miranda Twins, better known in the community as Phyllis Mitra and Theresa Maniscalco greeted everyone in their colorful outfits, including hats created with plastic fruit. (Thank goodness for the Dollar Stores). New residents were introduced that have moved to HHR since last September. Phyllis and Theresa organized a congo line and the new residents followed with maracas made by Nancy Nelson. The idea came from watching Barney with her grandson. The Hawaiian Buffet and music were good, especially the steel drum which got everyone up dancing.

Mah Jong

One of the great things about Heritage of Hawk Ridge is that if you have an idea for an activity that isn’t already scheduled you can usually find enough neighbors who would be willing to try it to get it on the schedule. Mah Jong is one of our newer activities, and already we have enough players for two tables. From left to right are: Delores Jones, Sally Wood, Jo Bronstein, Lynn Rogers, Ginny Marten, Vera Arroyo, Mary Murphy, and Norma Allen and a non resident guest.

SEPTEMBER'S GARDEN OF THE MONTH
(click on images to see larger version in new browser window)

Come by and see our new Garden of the Month sign at the home of Jim & Karen Singleton on 52 Toucan Drive. Our choice for September’s Garden of the Month was the small yard with lots of eye-catching color. Bright pink, white and red impatiens and multi-colored zinnias greet you at the entrance walkway. Colorful mums and gerber daisies line the side of the house.
