HHR BIKE CLUB GOES ON FIRST MAJOR RIDE!

Seen above are: John Pellerito, Gary McCullough, Ed DeAvilla, Jim Drey, Veta Cairns, Judy Jacques, and Steph Hempel. John reports:

The first HHR Bicycle trip took place on Friday August 3, 2007. The trip was a huge success with 7 bikers participating. The bus left at approximately 9:30 AM and we traveled to the Katy Trail parking lot off Main Street in Old St. Charles. We unloaded the bikes and started our trip down the Katy Trail at 10:35 AM with intentions to meet back at the bus at 12:00 PM. There were varied experiences and the trips ranged from 6 miles to 20 miles. At 12:00 PM, we arrived back at the bus, loaded the bikes, and walked to lunch at the Trailhead Brewery. It was a very enjoyable day.

COMMUNITY NOTICES

DINNERS FOR 8

We would like to thank our August hosts for making our last Dinner For 8 another great evening. Our next and last Dinner For 8 for 2007 will be on Sunday Nov. 4. We will need several new hosts to volunteer or “step up to the plate” (so to speak!!). If you haven't participated in Dinner For 8 before, please join us. It’s a wonderful chance to spend a casual evening getting to know your neighbors in a small group setting.

Questions: Call Joyce Emrick 561-0262 Jane Harrison 561-1548 Carol Richert 561-6854, Ginny Wolfram 625-6216 Sharon Huston 561-5641.

Special Thanks

During several storms Bob Bell went into the swimming pool to fish out tables and chairs that were blown across the deck into the pool. Gary McCullough and Veta Cairns have also helped in this effort and we want to thank them all. Also thanks to Gary for creating a wonderful colored coded chart and monitoring the lights around the grounds, letting us know when bulbs need replacing or fixtures repaired and/or replaced. Your help is greatly appreciated.

SINGLE FRIENDS’ LUNCH

Join us for lunch on Tuesday, Sept. 18th at McGurk’s Public House in old town O’Fallon - a traditional local Irish pub and grill. Weather permitting, we’ll sit outside in the garden with fountains and waterfalls. Afterwards we’ll stop at Oma’s Barn - outside plants for the Fall and inside rooms filled with antiques, pottery, candles, etc. The bus will leave the Clubhouse at 11 AM. Sign up sheet at the Clubhouse. For questions call, Pat 561-1959.

Lake Saint Louis Wednesday Night Men’s Golf League

On August 8, 2007 the LSL Wednesday Night Men’s League completed it’s season and celebrated with a buffet dinner and awarded prize’s to many of the Wednesday night participants in the HHR Clubhouse.

The league was formed in a cooperative agreement between David Reynolds (LSL Director of Parks & Recreation) and our own John Pellerito. Two person teams played a best ball scramble each Wednesday evening beginning on April 18, 2007 and concluding August 8, 2007. Fourteen teams competed and each was matched against a different team throughout the period. Ron McCracken (LSL Parks & Recreation Department) constructed a spreadsheet that reflected the team composition with won & lost records, standings, and rounds played. Ron also developed a sheet that pitted each team against another for the entire season. John Aubuchon collected the green fees and cart fees and his wife Sharon maintained a continuous financial statement each week for the league.

At seasons end the team of Mark Stevens and Ron McCracken took 1st Place with a record of 11 wins – 2 ties - 0 losses, 2nd Place went to the team of Ed DeAvilla and Roger Richert with a record of 9 wins – 4 ties – 0 losses, 3rd Place went to the team of Bob Ruddick and Frank Guerretta with a record of 8 wins – 5 ties – 0 losses. The best net score also went to the Ruddick and Guerretta team with 394 out of 405. A 50/50 drawing was held to exhaust the money collected during the year for prizes and John Ross and John Pellerito each won $25. Dave Reynolds provided a sleeve of balls and a divet repair kit for each player.

The league is expected to resume in the Spring of 2008, look for information in the Puttering’s

Signs That You’re Playing Too Much Golf

  • Before you pick up the salt shaker at dinner you mark its position with a dime.

  • You dream you go to prison but still get conjugal visits with your driver.

  • You ask the shopper ahead in the checkout line if you can play through.

  • You realize no matter how bad you’re playing it’s still possible to play worse.

  • (Men) When you stand at the urinal you use an overlapping grip.

Please remember that the golf course cart path is not to be used for walking during the hours the golf course is open. At this time of year that is Tuesday - Sunday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. This is a mandate from the HHR Association insurance carrier, and is for your own protection.

AND

Only licensed drivers 16 years and older may drive a golf cart. This also means kids shouldn’t be sitting on your lap steering the cart.
This is a rule and is for the safety of everyone.

CARE & CONCERN COMMITTEE  LUNCHEON & MOVIE
(click on images to see larger version in new browser window)

To the right Karen Singleton, Norma Allen, Ann Zito, Ginny Marten, & Shirley Barnes are in the kitchen of the clubhouse getting lunch ready for their guests. The CCC threw a lovely lunch followed by the screening of the movie Miss Potter for guests from the community who may not have a chance to get out much. The name says it all - we have really loving and caring people at HHR who want to share their blessings with their neighbors. Below, other members of the CCC and their guests enjoy a great afternoon of food and friendship.

HHR Homeowners Co-op Update

Your co-op committee has been working on the information gathered from the surveys. It is our intent to distribute information to you in about one month. The document will list the names of businesses and individuals that have been recommended by a neighbor and will be categorized by the type of service to be provided.

We are also planning to have another general meeting to discuss procedures and other issues that you think need to be addressed by the Co-op.

GARDEN OF THE MONTH
(click on images to see larger version in new browser window)

Sandra Forrest

Walk or drive by 2173 Hawks Landing Drive and view Sandra’s beautiful yard. She has incorporated the empty neighboring front yard into her own garden. She likes to buy distressed plants to nurse back to health. Her annual plants include begonias, lantanas and zineas. A special feature is her array of colorful ceramic flower pots lining the garage ledge.
