WOODWORKING CLUB
DOES OUTSTANDING
JOB ON PODIUM

It began last December with an email query that Shirley Barnes sent Stu Cassell. She inquired if the Association could purchase a podium for use at the annual Cup of Christmas Tea and various other community events. After researching the cost of podiums it became evident that a nice one was simply too expensive to purchase. We contacted the newly formed Woodworking Club and asked Barry Bingham if it would be possible for them to make us a podium. A while later Barry & Len Ketterer met with Stu and showed him detailed plans and cost estimates. The club then set up a working schedule and completed the podium and presented it on May 25th. More details about the podium project appear laterf this newsletter.

COMMUNITY NOTICES

To all my friends and neighbors at HHR

Thank you for all the cards wishing me well, all the prayers, and all the tasty food you have brought.

I want to share some very good news! I took an MRI-PET scan on April 30th. It showed a sizeable reduction in my lung tumor. Great news! Two more chemo treatments and then another scan.

Thank you all again. What a wonderful place to live.

Jeanette Hage

I want to thank all my wonderful friends and neighbors in Hawk Ridge for the notes, cards, and phone calls I received at the time of my brother’s sudden death.

I could never have found a finer community in which to spend this time of my life.

Sincerely,
Delores I. Behrens

I would like to thank everyone for making me feel welcome and expressing positive feedback about the golf course.

Dan Adams
On site Golf Superintendent

Water Volleyball

Water Volleyball on Thursdays is now starting at 3:30 PM in order to give the Bridge Players a chance to play. All are welcome.

SINGLE FRIENDS’ LUNCH

This month we’re going to Yia Yia’s Euro Café on Olive Street Rd in Chesterfield on Tuesday, June 12th. The bus will leave the clubhouse at noon. The sign-up sheet will be in the hallway of the clubhouse by the office. Hope to see you soon.

The Care and Concern Committee Has Made A Couple of Changes.

Karen Singleton will now be the person to call to report concerns and health issues of our neighbors. She will then get information to the various committees to respond to needs.

Ann Zito & Karen have switched responsibilities, and Ann will now chair the Home/Hospital Visit Committee. Shirley Barnes still chairs the Food Committee, and Ellen Shannon & Pat Kuznitz co-chair the Flower Committee. Huguette Duff sends appropriate cards from the CCC, and Dee Snyder sends cards from the Heritage Community. You may call any of us, of course, and we will get the information to the proper people.

We want to emphasize that you please call Karen when you know of an illness, surgery, or death. She would rather be called six or seven times about one person than miss someone who would benefit from our help. We apologize for anyone who has been missed because we didn’t get information.
We respect everyone’s privacy and always call the person or persons involved for permission to post their names on the Resident’s Bulletin Board, and to be sure we have the correct information about their situation. (There are four names now posted on the Board.) You may reach Karen at (636) 561-6364. Please help us continue to surround our neighbors with care and concern.

HERITAGE HAWKS

Special thanks to Ellis Nelson (seen pitching) who organized our first Senior Men’s softball league. Also thanks to Al Bronstein, who leads the Men’s Stretching classes, Vince Koehr for designing the logo for our shirts, and Joan Ketterer , who embroidered all of our shirts and hats. There are still tickets available to our Softball Stomp on June 9th, featuring a pool side tail-gating party and dance with the band Third Degree.

HOOFERS TAKE THE STAGE

Our HHR tap dancers, the Heritage Hoofers, had a busy, busy spring - full of many hours of practice. Finally , they were ready for their performance on May 20 at Wentzville Holt High School in the recital for Angie's Dance Studio. To quote one of the gals, " We absolutely were the most "seasoned" dancers in the show, but we absolutely had the most fun!"

Then on May 25, the troupe participated in the Sr. Olympics tap extravaganza, along with 22 other acts from the St. Louis area. No awards were given for the tap portion of the Sr. Olympics, but the ladies felt their performance was definitely worth a Blue Ribbon!

The Hoofers THANK everyone who came out to offer support and encouragement.

HERITAGE OF HAWK RIDGE WOODWORKING CLUB - ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF HOW SPECIAL OUR RESIDENTS ARE

We have folks from all over the country with varied backgrounds, skills, and talents. One of the things that makes our community so terrific is their willingness to share with their neighbors. It would take a full page just to list everyone that has stepped forward to organize a committee, purchase memorial trees, plan a party, spearhead a fund-raiser, start a new activity, create a new club, oversee a golf or tennis league, distribute notices, become one of our resident bus drivers, send cards or flowers, or simply help a neighbor in need. (this listing in no way reflects the vast variety of volunteers at Heritage of Hawk Ridge).

One of the latest examples is our Woodworking Club. Led by Barry Bingham and Len Ketterer, the club not only got together to share and learn new skills, but they accepted a “commission” from the Association to design and construct a podium that is not only extremely well crafted and functional, but is a beautiful piece of furniture as well.

A lot of time went into the design, materials purchasing, and construction of the podium It will benefit all of us for many years to come, and in a way become a symbol of the spirit of our community - HHR is a place where strangers become friends, where people are willing to give of their time and talents, and where FUN & LAUGHTER are found everywhere.

Below are the fifteen men who worked months on the beautiful new podium. We want to thank them for their wonderful gift to the community.

1ST ANNUAL HHR FISHING DERBY - MAY 14, 2007

That’s Charlie Ruhmann holding the largest fish caught during our first Fishing Derby. That beauty measured 20.50 inches and Charlie caught it under the bridge in the last two minutes of the event. He just barely aced out Vince Koehr who caught 19.25 inch bass, and Mike Cook, who also caught a 19.0 bass. The winner of the most fish caught category was Ron Nosal, who caught 32 fish in two hours. Darlene Kiefer won a prize for catching the smallest fish, which was 3 and 1/2 inches long. 15 residents participated in this event and we couldn’t have asked for a nicer day. During the contest some nice blue gill and catfish were also caught. The fishing event took place while the golf course was closed. We hope to do this every year - it was fun!
