COMMUNITY NOTICES

Care and Concern Committee

HHR residents who are sick are so appreciative of the cards they receive from their friends and neighbors. Let’s keep up the good work! It really helps to keep spirits up.

If you have any extra vases that you no longer need, consider donating them to the Care and Concern Committee to re-cycle when we make our floral arrangements. Please contact Pat Kuznitz. Also, the committee could use new get-well or thinking-of-you cards. If you receive some in the mail from an organization or charity, please consider donating. Contact Huguette Duff.

If you know of anyone in HHR who is ill, please contact Shirley Barnes or Ann Zito. HHR meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at 9:00 A.M. in the Club House Card Room. Contact Shirley Barnes if you would like to join in our efforts to provide care and moral support to our neighbors in time of need.

Thanks

I am so grateful to the residents of HHR for all the help and kindness they have shown us. It is a real joy to live some place where everyone is so kind and caring. I am doing much
better. Thank you all,

Bea Smugula & Wayne Whittimorer

Pinochle Anyone?

We have 3 tables of pinochle the last Wednesday of every month. Most of us are “relearning” after 30 or 40 years of not playing, so don’t feel at all intimidated. We need anyone interested in substituting (or observing a few times to learn the game). Please call Carol Richert at 561-6854

REMINDER - HHR BOOK CLUB
Annie Freeman’s Fabulous Traveling Funeral by
Kris Radish. Tuesday, November 14th at 1:00 PM at Carole Waugh’s house (319 Seahawk Dr.) RSVP by November 7th (561-3134) Hope to see you there!!!

LOBSTER FEST
106 people signed up for the Lobster Fest. Thank you for coming, we hope you will enjoy your dinner. As no entertainment is planned for the evening, we have located a turntable that will play old 45 records. Bring your old 45’s, we will have fun listening to the oldies and if you are not too full, you may want to take a turn on the dance floor. Don’t forget to bring your lobster or nut crackers. If you don’t have one there will be extras that you can use. - Ray & Nancy Withey

“The Show Must Go On”
(click on images to see larger version in new browser window)

The Heritage Hoofers are practicing for a performance at our annual Christmas Show and not even a walker could keep Judy Markham from attending the practice. Judy is recovering from an auto accident that left her with a broken ankle. Among the other “walking wounded” was Jeanne Brown, standing to Judy’s right who sported a back brace, thus proving that old show biz adage, “The Show Must Go On”. Janet Cook and sister Stephanie Hempel are the leaders and instructors of the Heritage Hoofers. From left to right - Front Row: Joan Ketterer, Pat Turner, Judy Markham, Jeanne Brown, Jeanette Hage, Karen Singleton, and Stephanie Hempel. Back Row: Helen Repke, Judy Jacques, Shirley Kruse, Janet Cook, Jane Ehrle, Linda King, Ann Zito, and Marie Guariglia. .

Lady Hawkes 2006 Season

The Lady Hawkes golf league successfully completed their fourth year with 46 members. Their year end awards banquet was held at Rizzo’s in Wentzville in October. New board members were elected and many awards were presented for various categories. All in all, it was a wonderful season with much fun and even some improvements on the course!!! The league looks forward to season #5 beginning in April 2007. Information on joining the league will be distributed in February 07. Retiring president, Janet Cook, would like to thank Elaine Voight, Sharon Aubuchon, Dee Snyder and Sue Tumberallo for their hard work and dedication to the Lady Hawkes league.

Club Tournament Winners

HHR Golf News (by Larry Knopfel)

The First Annual Club Championship Tournament was completed in October and the champion’s are Jan Bell in the ladies group and Mack Prince in the men’s group. Vickie Wolz was the ladies runner-up and Fred McGavran was the men’s runner-up. The winners and runner-ups were awarded trophies in a ceremony at the pro shop on Sunday October 15, 2006. A plaque recognizing the champions is now displayed in the pro shop.

The Fall Invitational Tournament was held on October 22, 2006 and 30 golfers struggled with strong winds and cold temperatures. In the morning first round of nine holes Cris Cristea and his son Cris took first place, Jim Waugh and his son David took second place, Bob Brockland and Jim Choate took third place, and Jerry Raymond and Dean Harris took fourth place. The afternoon round of 18 holes was divided into two flights, in the “A” flight there was a tie for first place between the team of Gayle Cattau & John Barado and the team of Bob Brockland & Jim Choate. Second place went to the team of Lanny Lamont & Brian Buckley. In the “B” flight Steve Aubuchon & Vince Capotosa took first place, second place went to Russ Schnur & Jerry Trupipino, and third place went to Lee Johnson & Scott Hamilton. Congratulations to all the winners and to all who braved the weather on this cold windy day.

Look for another tournament in the spring of 2007.

The Men’s Saturday Morning Golf Group ended their season on October 14, 2006 with 34 members playing in a gala event that included 18 holes of golf and then a buffet lunch, prizes, and special recognition of John Steininger, Chad Zahner, Judy Jacques, and John Aubuchon for all they do to help make the Men’s League a success.

Please remember that the golf course cart path is not to be used for walking during the hours the golf course is open. At this time of year that is Tuesday - Sunday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. This is a mandate from the HHR Association insurance carrier, and is for your own protection.

Carol Jones, Mary and Les Heideman were among the 57 residents that came to our first Donut Social of the season. We served donuts, bagels, muffins, and cookies. In the cooler months our donut socials are a great chance to meet neighbors and make new friends. In November we’ll have one to honor our Veterans on the 11th

Periodically, John Pellerito conducts a class in the Fitness Center to demonstrate the proper usage of the exercise equipment. Seen above with John are Jane Harrison and Jean Walden.
