SPECIAL SWIMSUIT ISSUE
LITTLE MERMAIDS WOW HHR
WITH NEW ROUTINES

The Heritage of Hawk Ridge Little Mermaids are one of our premiere
performance groups consisting entirely of residents. Above from left to
right are: Stephanie Hempel, Shirley DeAvilla, Shirley Kruse, Helen Repke,
Sonie Singer, Janet Cook, Linda White, Jeanette Hage, Karen Singleton,
Carol Richert, and their leader and choreographer in the back row, Pat
Turner. The ladies began practicing months ago and their dedication to
this fun endeavor showed. They gave two performances, a “dress rehearsal”
on September 5th for a select group of invitees, and then they performed
at the 2006 Luau, where over 170 people attended. We have an amazing
array of talented people here at HHR..

Thanks
We wish to thank our
neighbors and friends for their care and concern following my recent
accident and surgery. The many cards, calls, flowers and food were
greatly appreciated. The Care & Concern Committee is so exemplary of
the caring and wonderful neighbors of H.H.R. What a wonderful place
it is for finding new friends.
Many thanks, Melvin &
Georgia Soucier
RONALD McDONALD HOUSE THANKS YOU.
I recently took a LARGE BAG of tabs to McDonald’s restaurant to be
given to the Ronald McDonald House. The manager was very
appreciative and very pleased at the quantity collected. Tabs from
soda, beer, soup, pet food cans, etc. are recycled by the facility
to help with expenses for families who stay at the House while their
critically ill children are treated in the hospital. A “cookie jar”
is in the kitchen of the Club house for your convenience in
collecting these tabs, and you may also continue to drop the tabs
off at Karen Singleton’s home. They will be deposited at the nearest
location. Thank you for your support. Keep ‘em coming—we are making
a difference!!!!
During the regular meeting of the Care & Concern Committee, a
suggestion was made to publicize medical items neighbors may have,
and to make these items available to loan temporarily for assistance
in making inconveniences easier to handle. We hope to add to our
list as others share their supplies. We now have:
Delores Behrens – a walker
Leal Stewart & Karen Singleton – an electric wheelchair, an electric
cart, ramps to use on the front steps to allow wheelchairs, etc. to
have in and our access, a regular wheelchair, and a transfer board
to allow access from wheelchair to bed, to car seat, etc. and access
back to wheelchair. (Some of these items have been used already and
have been returned when no longer needed.)
Please contact Karen if you have an item you would care to loan. It
will be published on the resident’s bulletin board to help those in
need. |

reviews the rules. She had no idea when she posted a notice inviting
people to join her for a game of canasta that 28 people would respond!
At HHR it’s often that easy to find people to join a new activity. |

HHR Golf Activities (by Larry Knopfel)
The
HHR Friday Night Couples Group concluded its season on September 22, 2006
with a gala extravaganza that included golf and then a catered buffet
dinner in the Clubhouse Card and Pool Room. Thirty-five members attended
and enjoyed beef brisket, pork loin, hot pasta, salad & rolls, dessert,
and coffee & iced tea. Each attendee received a gift bag of golf
paraphernalia, and there were prizes including a round of golf for four at
CG of Wentzville won by Steph Hempel. Thanks to Sharon Aubuchon & Carol
Knopfel for putting together a great evening. See you next April! The
Lady Hawkes Wednesday Golf League will hold its Annual Banquet on October
4, 2006 at Rizzo’s Restaurant on the Wentzville Parkway. Awards and prizes
are always featured at the ladies banquet and we’re sure this year will be
no exception. Congratulations to Janet Cook, President of the 2006 Lady
Hawkes, for a great season.
On October 6, 2006
many residents will participate in the Invitational Outing at Whitmoor
Country Club. The outing includes golf and an upscale dinner at a very
affordable price and gives many an opportunity to play the prestigious
Whitmoor Country Club South Course.
The 1st Annual HHR Club Championship Tournament is currently underway and
is nearing completion. The ladies side of the tournament was recently
decided when Jan Bell won over Vicki Wolz. The men’s side will likely be
decided by the time this newsletter is published there are four men
competitors still in contention. A plaque is being purchased and will be
displayed in the pro shop reflecting the annual winners in each category.
Trophies will also be awarded to the club champions.
The Men’s Saturday Morning Golf Group is nearing the end of its season and
a gala event is planned for October 14, 2006. A sign up sheet will be at
the pro shop and all Saturday golf members are invited to attend. A buffet
lunch along with prizes will be featured that day and at no cost to any
Saturday morning golf member.

Please
remember that the golf course cart path is not to be used for
walking during the hours the golf course is open. At this time of
year that is Tuesday - Sunday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. This is a
mandate from the HHR Association insurance carrier, and is for your
own protection. |

“It’s all Greek to me”
Mary Rose Cassell joined 13 other residents on Sept. 2nd when they
took a bus trip to the St. Nicholas Greek Festival. She is seen here
on the left in a photo taken in the gift shop during the festival.
Earlier she and Stu enjoyed a nice lunch with Gil and Mary Ann Rowland
under one of the two big tents set up for those dining and listening
to the live band. The food was wonderful as well as the entertainment,
which included dancers and other performers. Many of the group toured
the Church.

The attached will show a couple that
caused a big disturbance at the annual luau held at Hawk Ridge.
Police were called in and an awful riot broke out with the uninvited
guests refusing to leave. The Board has decided that all such events
in the future must be monitored by security guards.
That’s what the email said that Sue Tumbarello sent me with this
picture of her and Gene Stiens. Boy, they’ll let anyone in here! (and
we’re glad)

Ron Furr, at his “Touch of Elvis” show on
Sept. 16th. Ron started the show as himself, then came out for the
second half as Elvis. Below he is wishing Veta Cairns a Happy
Birthday. Veta had turned (cough) on Saturday and some friends let Ron
know. |
