JOHN & MARGARET NOCTON
KICK OFF THE JULY 4TH EXTRAVAGANZA AS
MARSHALS OF THE PARADE
John and Margaret Nocton were our official marshals for the 2006 July 4th
Extravaganza Parade. To celebrate the 4th of July residents decorated
cars, golf carts, bicycles, and even dogs and paraded around the
community. We also had 2 “majorettes” twirling batons. This was the second
year this event was staged and in addition to the parade residents enjoyed
swimming, sharing great food, and competing in a variety of games at
poolside. See more photos of the event in the July Highlights section..
| Community Notices To all our
wonderful friends and neighbors… You will never know how much all
the cards, flowers, food, transportation and PRAYERS have meant to
us the past few weeks. This was my first experience at not being
able to do many routine things and I just never realized what it
takes to keep everything going smoothly (or at least sort of
smoothly). You all stepped in and more than anything else, kept all
of us smiling with your offerings and even more, your willingness to
help in anyway. Ralph and I always knew that if we got into a tough
spot, one of you would be there. What a special place to call home!
Ralph and Barb Deater
A fellow resident has suggested that whenever possible folks driving
golf carts to the clubhouse double up on the parking spaces, either
side by side if the space is wide enough, or one cart behind the
other. As our population grows, so will the number of golf carts and
cars.
Thanks to the Wednesday night card players who braved the
ferocious storm to run out to the pool deck to remove all of the
umbrellas from the tables on July 19th. Unfortunately, we still lost
2 glass tables as the strong winds tipped them over and the tempered
glass shattered. Thanks also to Tony Zito for calling Stu at home to
alert him, as well as coming to the clubhouse the next day and
helping Stu & John clean up broken glass. Just another example of
the giving spirit of the folks that make up this very special
community.

$7 per person - Bring a friend!
To hear a sample of Leslie’s music from her new EP “Stars In The Attic” go

She has a wonderful range, and some of her vocals bring to mind Maria
Muldaur (Midnight At The Oasis - 1973). She is extremely easy to listen to
and is described as a down tempo jazz singer. We are fortunate to have her
come out to HHR to do a show for us. Locally, she can also be seen at
Cicero’s, Mangia Italiano, The Way Out Club, Big Johnson’s Doc Haus, and
the Dorsett Inn.
Schmolsen Gold Concert/Dance
Saturday
August 26th at 7:00 PM
$7 per person - bring a friend!
Contemporary and classic songs from a huge repertoire of intimate ballads,
classic rock n roll, and current country music. Mickey Olsen (keyboards,
vocals) and Jac Schmidt (guitar vocals) bring a wealth of profession music
experience.

HHR Friday Night Golf
Each Friday evening residents gather at the pro shop at 5:30 PM to check
in for a night of golf followed by a gathering either on the pro shop
patio or clubhouse pool and card room to enjoy food, drink, and the
friendship of other neighbors. The golf usually is a four-person scramble
that often has some interesting twists that make it not only fun but
competitive too. Generally the foursomes are a mix of neighbors and
friends and that too offers the opportunity to meet other people in the
neighborhood and share some interesting tales of past experiences. The
golfers usually tee off at 6 PM and the nine holes take about 1 1/2 to 2
hours to play and then it’s time for food, drink, and the telling of
tales. If you plan to play sign up at the pro shop any time between
Tuesday and early Friday morning. Recently we included a celebration of
the retirement of Jerry Stephenson at one of our Friday night events,
photos of that outing are included with this article.
Thank You
Jerry Stephenson thanks the Friday Evening Golf group for helping him
celebrate his first day of retirement on June 30th. Jerry said that when
people ask him what he is going to do in retirement, he tells them about
what a great community we have here at Heritage of Hawk Ridge.
Other Golf Opportunities here at Heritage of Hawk Ridge Include
- Ladies Golf League – Wednesday Mornings – Check in at 8 AM
and tee off at 8:30 AM. See Janet Cook for details.
- Men’s Golf League – Saturday Mornings – Check in at 8 AM and
tee off at 8:30 Am. See Larry Knopfel for details.
- Thursday Golf Outing Group – Retirees from National
Geospatial and Mapping Agency and Friends – Group plays different golf
courses in the Greater Saint Louis Area – Four person scramble and loads
of fun, currently about 15 HHR residents play in this group of 150
golfers. See Larry Knopfel for details.
