GOT LOOSE SHINGLES?

Our thanks to good neighbor Leonard Hooper who took the time to share a new resource with us. During one of the April storms Leonard had several roof shingles blow loose. His insurance company gave him the name of a local contractor who proved to be extremely reasonable priced. He was also very prompt and did the repair the same time he gave the estimate. The company name is J.S. Restoration, and the person to get in touch with is John Steets. He is located in O’Fallon, Missouri and can be reached at 314-409-7532. Mr. Steets does roofing, roofing repairs, siding, fascia, painting, and gutters.

If you know of a good resource jot down the information and turn it in to the office so we can publish it to share with the community. Thanks again Leonard!

LAKE HAS NEW PREDATOR!

We recently contacted Geese Peace, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to helping people rid their property of
Canadian Geese using humane methods. They use a variety of techniques including floating alligator heads like the one they lent us for the big lake. Since installing it we’ve only spotted 1 or 2 geese - at one time we had over 150 geese. So far, so good.

WHAT’S AN “ACTIVE SENIOR?”

Helen Roberts, 91, is one of our most active seniors. Seen on the left, she competed in our first Pool Tournament on April 1, 2006.
Besides pool, Helen goes bowling with us twice a month, took the square dancing class this winter, and even plays water volleyball. Before she retired, Helen was a physical education teacher. She is an amazing woman with a cute sense of humor. Helen is proof that an active senior is not defined by age, but by the desire to keep having fun for as long as you live. You go girl!

Golfing News

There’s nothing more relaxing
than a fun round of golf.

The Pro-Shop Grill and Golf Course are now open from
8:00 AM to 5:00 PM - Tuesday - Sunday
Closed on Mondays.

Useful Information

Linda White let us know that the Pro-Shop sells gift certificates that can be used for both food and golf, and golf related items that are for sale in the Pro-Shop. Thanks for the info Linda! Did you also know that if you mention you are from Heritage at the Quizno’s restaurant in the nearby Schnuck’s Shopping Center, that they will give you a discount on your food order?

Bob Bell was one of the “behind the scenes” coordinators for the
2nd Annual Spring Classic Golf Tournament.

The golfers are raring to go
and await the official start of the tournament.
This fun event grows bigger each year.

Heritage of Hawk Ridge Golf Activities

Lady Hawkes Golf League

The “Lady Hawkes” kicked off their 4th season on April 12, 2006. The league has grown considerably in the past three years with a roster of 30 HHR residents + 19 non-residents, for a total of 49 members. We look forward to another fun and exciting season of golf.
For information on joining the league, please contact Janet Cook @ 561-8618. New residents may join the league anytime during the season. (Registration is closed to non-residents,)

Friday Night Couples Group

Each Friday evening residents gather at the pro shop to play a scramble with a variety of venues throughout the golf season. All residents are invited to play just sign up at the pro shop prior to 12 noon on Friday. Check in is at 5 pm and we usually tee off at 5:30 pm. The fun of playing is that after golf all participants bring a food item and their own drinks and we sit around on the pro shop patio making new friendships. On April 21, 2006 26 players showed up to play and we had over 30 people sitting around on the patio afterwards. Spouses or friends who don’t play usually come afterwards to enjoy the companionship.

Men’s Saturday Morning League

The Men’s Saturday Morning Group started this year on April 8, 2006 when 16 players showed up on a very cold morning for golf. The group has increased in size and on our last two outing’s we had 31 and 26 players respectively. The men check in at 8 am and tee off at 8:30 am. We play for individual handicap’s the first round and then a scramble on the second round. All residents are invited to join, just show up any Saturday morning.

HHR Residents Golf Committee

The residents golf committee which was created to bring about more awareness of the golf course management, is chaired by Fred McGavran and includes, Carole Waugh (Secretary), Judy Markham, Sandy Cristea, Gayle Cattau, and Larry Knopfel. The group has been meeting regularly since late winter discussing issues that affect the golf course, geese population, and walkers on the cart paths, trespassers, and ideas to improve more public play. At it’s most recent meeting the group has decided to look into the possibility of a page on the HHR web site that would promote golf and advertise golf activities here at our golf. More information on this subject will be forthcoming.

2nd Annual HHR Spring Classic Golf Tournament

On April 23, 2006 48 players teed off in a three person scramble here at Hawk Ridge. The first round of nine holes found the team of Gayle Cattau, Chris Cattau, and John Barada a winner at 7 under par. John Barada also had a hole in one on hole #2 in that round. After the first round Chad Zahner assisted by Judy Jacques served a buffet lunch. Players were then assigned to A and B flights and a second round of 18 holes commenced but the results were similar; in the “A” Flight tying for first place at 5 under par the team of Gayle Cattau, Chris Cattau, and John Barada and the team of Bob Brockland, Jim Choate, and someone named Jimmy. In the “B” Flight at 3 under par, Lanny Lamont, Buckley, and Uhlentruck. Thanks to the organizers, Gayle Cattau and Fred McGavran with specialty assistance by Bob Bell and a special thanks to the pro shop staff John Steiniger, Wanda McElroy, Chad Zayner, and Judy Jacques.

Please remember that the golf course cart path is not to be used for walking during the hours the golf course is open. At this time of year that is Tuesday - Sunday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. This is a mandate from the HHR Association insurance carrier, and is for your own protection.
