The Pro-Shop Grill and Golf Course are now open from
8:00 AM to 5:00 PM - Tuesday - Sunday
Closed on Mondays.
HHR Men’s Saturday Morning Golf League
The 2006 golf season for men will kickoff on April 8, 2006. Plan to check
in at the pro shop at 8 AM with an 8:30 AM tee time. We’ll start this
season by using your handicap from the last round in October 2005; new
players will start play with a handicap developed by John Steiniger at
the pro shop. The first round each Saturday players will play for their
handicap (in a foursome) and the second round will be a four-man scramble
where we occasionally modify the venue to try new innovations. Residents
who have not purchased a membership at the golf course should pay their
green fee for each round they intend to play on Saturday morning and
should not rent a cart (see paragraph below).
The first round all players pay a $2 fee ($1 for the pot to the best
team score on the round, and $1 towards a money pot that accumulates for
a final outing where food, beverage, and prizes are provided).
The second round a $2 fee is collected for a money pot that goes to the
best team.
Members who do not own carts pay a $2 fee for each round they play and
this money is used for cart rental when there is not enough member carts
available. Surplus money from this pot goes into the money pot for the
final outing.
Because our group will be increasing in size this year we will be
asking each week if you plan to play the following week. This process
will allow the pro shop to set aside sufficient tee times for our group
as we compete with general public play.
Additional golf opportunities available are as follows:
- The HHR community organized a Golf Course Marshal program last year
made up of residents to patrol the golf course during the hours it is
closed to insure that the course was not being trespassed and that
golfers still playing were there legitimately. We will begin the Marshal
program again this year in mid-April and more Marshals are needed, you
don’t need a golf cart to participate.
- A group of retirees from the Saint Louis Area (125 player pool) play
a four-person scramble each Thursday beginning April 20, 2006 at
Missouri Bluffs. Each week a different course is played and last year
the group averaged almost 70 golfers at each outing. Don’t worry about
your caliber of play; players are teamed so that good and average
players play together. About one dozen HHR men are members of this group
and use the bus on each outing where the number of riders exceeds six. A
storyboard presentation promoting this group is displayed in the pro
shop.
- The Saint Louis Area Eagle Scout Association is holding it’s 15th
Annual Golf Tournament on May 8, 2006 at the Falls Golf Club on Mexico
Road in O’Fallon, Mo. The fee is $100 and that includes lunch, green
fee, and prizes. The association is a 401 c organization (not for
profit) so half of the $100 fee is tax deductible. The organization is
also looking for corporation ($1000), Special ($225), and Hole ($175)
sponsors. The organization’s sole purpose is to help support the Saint
Louis Area Boy Scouts of America activities. See the storyboard in the
pro shop for more information.
For additional information on any of the preceding items call Larry
Knopfel at 561-2280

Please
remember that the golf course cart path is not to be used for
walking during the hours the golf course is open. At this time of
year that is Tuesday - Sunday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. This is a
mandate from the HHR Association insurance carrier, and is for your
own protection. |

Meals on Wheels
The Care and Concern Committee wants to pass on information about
services available to seniors in our area. There is a Meals-on-Wheels
program available from Wentzville. Hot meals are delivered to seniors that
are homebound Monday through Friday. A $2.25 donation is suggested for
each meal but is not required. For seniors not homebound a hot lunch or
salad bar are provided at the Green Lantern at 506 S. Linn in Wentzville.
A reservation one day ahead is requested. Please call Mimi Bray at
636-327-8720 to request Meals-on-Wheels or to make a reservation for
lunch. Van service is provided for those who need a ride to the grocery
store, the doctor, or to attend the hot lunch program in Wentzville.
If you are interested in volunteering for Meals-on-Wheels, substitute
drivers are needed. Contact Mimi Bray.

BOWLING HIGHLIGHTS
Our bowling group goes out twice a month for a couple of
fun games of bowling and then lunch. On March 15th Mary Balestri bowled a
162. Orville Rumrey bowled a 178. The interesting thing is that both of
them told Activities Director Stu Cassell that they didn’t think they’d do
too well that day. I wonder what they’d do on a good day!
FITNESS CENTER
Veta
Cairns & Linda White maintain their girlish figures with regular
workouts in the Fitness Center. When the weather is good, they walk
around the community. They are among many Heritage of Hawk Ridge
residents that know the secret to staying young is to stay active. Veta
gave up a promising career as a professional baseball player in the
early 50’s to start a family. Linda White, former star of stage, screen,
and radio, left the bright lights of show business to become a nuclear
physicist for NASA.
BLOCK CAPTAINS WANTED FOR PHASE 4
Our block captains are responsible for distributing the
monthly newsletter and the mid-month sign-up sheets and notices.
Presently, Veta Cairns is helping us with the homes in the newest phase
of Heritage of Hawk Ridge. We are looking for volunteers to take care of
the houses on Owls Perch Dr. and Falconcrest Dr. Generally, we try to
break up the routes when they reach 14 or more houses. If any of our new
residents would like to help us or if you have any questions about being
a block captain, please contact the office. Being a block captain is a
great way to help your community as well as meet neighbors.
HOW SOME GROUPS START AT HHR
In addition to what our lovely and talented Activities
Director, Stu Cassell plans and organizes, many of our great clubs,
groups, and regularly scheduled events originated with residents. Like
to play a certain game and need some folks to join you? Just make a
flyer and post it on the Residents Bulletin Board, or put a sign up
sheet on the front desk (please let the office know when you do that).
Many of our established clubs and groups began like that such as the
Hand & Foot players, the Tennis league, Ladies and Men’s Golf Leagues,
Bridge Clubs, Book of the Month club, Singles Group, Widows Group, to
name just a few. One of the great things about HHR is that there are so
many people here who like to have fun.

Ray Markham, Gary McCullough, Ron
Erhle, Bob Ederle, Len Ketterer, and Al Schwartz enjoying coffee and donuts
at our Donut Social. During the winter we stage free donut socials. This
one was attended by nearly 50 residents. When it gets warm we’ll schedule
some fun Happy Hours. |

Marcella Vogel and her sister
Thelma Kehres, along with Carol Knopfel were part of the Low Rollers Poker
game on Saturday, March 18th. The way we run the game is that the dealer
can choose any form of poker for the game they deal. There were some pretty
creative games going on that day. |
