Helen Roberts and Leal Stewart were our Grand Marshals for our 1st annual July 4th Parade and Extravaganza. Last year the activities committee came up with a really fun day-long event with contests, pot luck dinner and evening fireworks viewing. This year they asked residents to decorate their golf carts and cars and join in a parade around the community. The response surpassed all expectations - We had eighteen different vehicles.

Coming Event

HHR Book Club Meeting Tuesday Sept. 13th. “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini. Available at the Library on Prospect. Reserve Now. Where: Judy Markham 2090 Hawks Landing Dr.

Reminder

The Pinochle Club will resume our once-a-month playing on Wednesday September 14th at 1:00 pm in the card room. Anyone interested in learning/playing this fun game are encouraged to call Carol Richert at 561-6854. We have 2 regular tables and would welcome newcomers and/or subs.

Relay for Life Walk

Our sincere thanks to all our Hawk Ridge friends who supported our “Relay for Life” walk - proceeds to the American Cancer Society. Most all of us have been touched in some manner by cancer, and we greatly appreciate your generous support.

Sincerely
Linda White & Veta Cairns

This Seems Like A Good Idea

Paramedics will turn to a victim’s cell phone for clues to that person’s identity. You can make their job much easier with a simple idea that they are trying to get everyone to adopt - ICE.
ICE stands for In Case of Emergency. If you add an entry in the contacts list in your cell phone under ICE, with the name and phone number of the person that the emergency services should call on your behalf, you can save them a lot of time and have your loved ones contacted quickly. It only takes a few moments of your time to do. Paramedics know that ICE means and they look for it immediately. ICE your phone NOW!

There’s nothing more relaxing
than a fun round of golf.

The Pro-Shop Grill and Golf Course are now open from
8:00 AM to 5:00 PM - Tuesday - Sunday
Closed on Mondays.

July 4th Scramble Results

1st Place: Jan Bell & Tom Walsh

2nd Place: Terry Reider & Dennis League

3rd Place: Lowell Barnes & Joe Wezgrowitz

3’s the charm

Hole number 3 has been good to the Aubuchon Family. Husband Steve AubuchonPhoto by Sharon Aubuchon shot a hole in one on 3 a while ago, and on July 3rd wife Sandy shot a hole in one during the scramble to win “closet to the hole.” Then just ten days later she shot another hole in one on number three. Her marvelous good fortune seems to have started right after Recreation Director, Stu Cassell, hit her roof with a golf ball. So, if he’s on the course and hits your house, consider it a lucky thing, and immediately go out and play a round of golf.

Over 40 Club

The weather hasn’t been cooperating for the Over 40 Club. We had about 15 people join us for a putting lesson during our first meeting. However, in the two weeks that followed the 90 degree temperatures kept us off the course in the afternoon. Leal Stewart braved the heat during our last session to play a round with Stu. We have post-poned the Over 40 Club until Sept.

Please remember that the golf course cart path is not to be used for walking during the hours the golf course is open. At this time of year that is Tuesday - Sunday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. This is a mandate from the HHR Association insurance carrier, and is for your own protection.

18 vehicles drove through HHR during out 1st annual July 4th Parade.

Gary Turner played the accordion while John Nocton drove the golf cart through the community.

Mike & Janet Cook have their own “Clydesdale” which Mike mounted on their golf cart for the parade. Mike played a horse neighing sound effect that Vince Koehr recorded earlier.

Lovely Judy Jacques was decked out in a mermaid costume. It was appropriate because the car she was riding in during the parade was decorated by “The Little Mermaids”, our Heritage of Hawk Ridge synchronized swimming ensemble.

Carole Waugh twirled a baton quite skillfully during the parade.

Judy Markham competes in the pool side pitching contest during the day long extravaganza.

Dixie & Eddie Webber at Fast Eddie’s in Alton, Il.

Shirley Rustige & Laverne Meyer enjoy ice cream cones in Grafton, Il.

Martha Nolton, Judy Markham, Pat Goddard, Heck & Rita Heckendorn, & Mary Rose Cassell enjoy yummy ice cream treats in Grafton, Illinois. Our bus trip included lunch at Fast Eddie’s, your choice of either gambling at the Alton Belle Casino or antique shopping, a stop for ice cream in Grafton, then a ferry ride back across the river. This is an annual day trip that is very popular and always fun.

The Mavenettes performing at the July 9th Bluejean Concert.

Lynn Rogers was one of the participants in our “noodle race” on July 3rd. We also had a pitching contest, and water balloon tossing contest. The pot luck dinner was fantastic with all kinds of wonderful entrees, side dishes, and desserts.

Karen Singleton, Lynn Rogers, Carol Richert, Annie Pick, Carol Knopfel, Diane (guest), Ellen O’Coin, and Mary Rose Cassell join forces to belt out a song at our July 2nd Karaoke Night. The great thing about Karaoke Night at Heritage of Hawk Ridge is that you can come just to listen, come to sing a solo, or get a bunch of friends up to help you with a song. We have over 2200 songs to choose from and this is always a free fun event.
