It’s that time of year again! Our water volleyball players enjoy spirited games in our heated pool every Monday at 9:00 AM and Thursday evening at 6:00 pm.

Vince Koehr caught 3 nice sized large mouth bass at Busch Wildlife Sanctuary at our last Men’s Day Out trip on May 20th. We started our morning with coffee and Krispy Kreme donuts and had a fair amount of action during the 3 hours we were there. More pictures later!

The family of Ruth Ederle would like to thank everyone for their cards and calls as well as the gift to the Siteman Cancer Center, and the collection for a memorial tree. Your thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated.

Bob Ederle

ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR PUTS HIS MONEY WHERE HIS MOUTH IS!

I’m in my 4th year as Activities Director and Property Manager of Heritage of Hawk Ridge. For the past several years my wife Mary Rose and I contemplated buying a home out here. I have lived in Missouri, Michigan, and California. What really convinced us that this was the right move for us are the people that populate Heritage of Hawk Ridge. As a former professional stand-up comic, I traveled all over the country, and have never met such a wonderful group of fun, creative, caring folks as the ones that call Heritage of Hawk Ridge their home. There is so much about life today that makes you want to go back to a simpler time; a time when it was common to leave your doors unlocked, when sex and violence weren’t so much a part of our entertainment on television and in the movies, and when you came home after school you didn’t immediately zone out in front of a computer or video game, but instead went outside and played ball or hop scotch with your neighborhood friends. (Yes, I am the champion of the run-on sentence!). Well, for me, Heritage of Hawk Ridge is a way to recapture something normally lost in today’s society - a sense of community. Maybe some would describe it as similar to living in a small town, except most small towns aren’t as fun filled as HHR. Yet, the caring for one another, the willingness to share, and the ability to come together for fun and laughter are all here. That’s what Mary Rose and I want to be part of, that’s why even though I am the central person that orchestrates the activities, I felt I wanted more. (Reminds me of my honeymoon when my wife yelled, “More! More! More!” - I had to tell her, “There is no more; furthermore, there never will be more, in fact, be happy there isn’t LESS!). Sorry, I digress… The homes are lovely here, the amenities incredible, but for my money it’s the people. Where else can folks over 50 come in as strangers, and make new life long friends? We’re happy to join you.

Ed DeAvilla above proudly displays a large mouth bass he caught during the Men’s Day Out fishing trip.
This is Bud Saucier who caught a channel catfish, and also his hat! The wind blew it into the lake but with persistence it was retrieved through some skillful casting.
Roger Richert caught a nice sized sun fish. Eddie Webber also caught a couple of fish. We fished on Lake number 30 at Busch Wildlife. They have 38 lakes and we were happy we were at one of them where the fish were biting.
THE BIG BOPPER STRIKES AGAIN!

Joe O’Coin gives it his all when he performs at Karaoke. During our last Karaoke night on May 14th he enlisted the help of Delores Behrens, Karen Singleton, and Lynn Rogers while he sang Chantilly Lace. The first time Joe sang this song he used his cell phone. The next time he sang it, he borrowed a phone from the lobby. We thought the next time he sang he’d bring in a full sized telephone booth, but he fooled us - this time he used “living props” instead. We never know what he’s going to do next, but we do know whatever it is, it’ll be fun to
watch.

We had a “gang sing” at Karaoke.

Left to right are: Mary Leach, Louise Banasakavich, Cynthia Rubique, Marlene Hughes, Dixie Webber, Karen Singleton, Jim Singleton, Ellen O’Coin, Tom Rogers, Lynn Rogers, Larry Knopfel, and Joe O’Coin. The great thing about our Karaoke nights are if you’re a little shy you can always ask a friend or a group of friends to help you with the song.
