Service with a Smile

On February 5th the 16 men shown here made a tragic error - they cooked and served breakfast to 27 ladies of Heritage of Hawk Ridge and did too good of a job - now the women want this to be a regular event. Don’t worry - it was so much fun, it probably will be (just not every month).

The tables were set with linen and silk roses. Veta Cairns folded the napkins like restaurants do making “crowns.” Don Roberts acted as the host and greeted the ladies as they arrived. We had 3 teams of food preparers: Bruce (son of Lois Howser) and Jerry Brown made pancakes, Joe O’Coin and Paul Brauner fryed the sausages, Gary Turner and Jim Waugh prepared the fruit cups.

Our servers, who made sure the ladies all had juice and coffee as well as their breakfast platters were Paul Stedman, Ray Markham, Larry Knopfel, Eddie Weber, Heck Heckendorn, Larry Kruse, and Tom Rodgers. Jim Singleton and John Pellerito were in the kitchen filling food orders. John Hunt was a big help with the clean-up, along with most of the other guys. Paul Stedman received 20 cents in tips after bringing a paper cup that said “tips” on it to the table he was serving.

"Danger Men Cooking"

tape, similar to police caution tape was affixed to the doorway of the kitchen and card room warning the ladies as they entered the Clubhouse for breakfast. There were no deaths as a result of the food the men prepared.

From Stu’s Desk or somewhere near it

By and large we have a pretty considerate group of people. However, in every community there are bound to be situations where improvements can be made for the benefit of all. There are just a few things that have come to my attention that I think I need to share with you.

First, we recently had an incident involving a contractor who apparently was driving too fast, lost control of his vehicle and damaged 3 different homeowners’ property before stopping. The contractors aren’t the only ones that speed through our community. We ask that everyone be aware of how fast they travel through HHR.

It’s also a good idea, whenever possible to keep your vehicles off the streets. There are 3 good reasons. First, your car, truck, or van is less likely to be involved in an accident when it’s in your garage or driveway, 2) if you live across the street from other homes you may be making it difficult for your neighbor to back out of their driveway, and 3) it looks nicer for the community as a whole if there aren’t a lot of cars parked in the streets.

Another thing that I noticed recently when I was delivering announcements for one of our out of town block captains, is that there are still people that are letting their pets run loose. This is strictly against therules. All animals must be on a leash when out of the house. This is for everyone’s safety, as well as the safety of your pet.

Finally, we recently had a situation where someone had been viewing and downloading adult material on the computers in the business center. Since the clubhouse is frequently visited by the public, and residents often bring grandchildren up to the clubhouse, we want to make sure that no objectionable material is ever accessed from our systems. Recently, some adult photos were left on the screen and several of our residents came upon them and it was quite disturbing. We have since put content controllers on each system. We hope that this will be the last time we have to deal with this problem.

On the brighter side, we look to 2005 to be the busiest, most fun filled year we’ve ever had at Heritage of Hawk Ridge. We have grown considerably as a community and each and every party has been more fun than the last. We have a wonderful group of people. Please help me make our new residents feel welcome as they ease into this new lifestyle. The best is yet to come.

Valentine’s Party Huge Success!

Above Left: Vicki & Rick Wolz served as the Hosts of the Valentine Pot Luck Dinner Party held on February 12th. Over 60 residents attended this splendid event.

Above Right: Vicki is directing Vince Koehr to take half a heart and seek his counterpart.

It was one of several fun contests held throughout the evenings festivities. In addition to that, Pat Goddard and Annie Pick conducted a wine tasting contest where you tasted and identified 7 different wines. Janet Cattau and Jeanne Brown provided background music on the piano during the wine tasting. Janet Cook helped with announcements, directives, and she made some really cute labels for the candle wine bottles that Sandy Aubuchon created for each table. The dinner was Italian and our residents once again provided a fantastic array of food and desserts, including spaghetti, lasagna, various salads and side dishes, as well as lots of garlic bread. There were so many people that helped behind the scenes as well. The room was set up as an outdoor Italian restaurant courtyard with checkered table cloths, and trees and lights. During dinner we had a strolling accordion player. After dinner Vicki invited people to get up and share anecdotes about how they met their spouses and that was entertaining.
