BOWLING FOR BREASTS!
FRED UHLE SCORES!
On our way to Cave Springs Bowling Alley on October 7th, we spotted a new Hooters restaurant on the south service road of highway 70. Our merry group of bowlers decided that’s where we’d like to eat after we bowled. Activities Director Stu Cassell was talking with Mo Uhle and she said, “I go to Hooters for the wings.” Stu said, “I go to the Hooters for the breasts.” (Stu has always like white meat). As the group which consisted of Fred & Mo Uhle, Laverne Meyer, Mary Balestri, John Hunt, Don Roberts, Roger Richert, and Bob Heuay started to bowl, Stu announced “the first person to bowl 2 strikes in a row will get a free lunch today.” Several people came close, including John Hunt who insisted that our choice of restaurants was distracting him from concentrating on bowling. We forced John to go to Hooters with us (we told John we’d back his story in case his wife Barbara was concerned). Our winner was Fred Uhle. It turns out that in his day, Fred was quite a bowler; he’s bowled several 300 games, and once owned a bowling alley. Fred is seen above on the right with our lovely waitress Danielle, who provided us with breasts, wings, and many other delicious items from the menu. She also appears to have made a wonderful headrest for Fred, who no doubt was fatigued from his tremendous bowling achievement. That’s as good an excuse as any to cuddle up to a beautiful woman: wink, wink. Fred proves, “You’re only as old as you feel” (so feel something young!). Congratulations Fred on a job well done - and the bowling wasn’t bad either.

PERKS!
When I arrived at the Fox Theater on September 18th to buy tickets for the December 18th Radio City Rockettes Christmas Show there was a line that wrapped around the block. I braced myself for what I imagined was going to be a long boring wait to get up to the ticket office to buy our tickets. This was the first day the tickets went on sale, and while I expected a few people to be there, I underestimated the popularity of the Rockettes. I did have to wait a full hour before I reached the box office, but it really wasn’t unpleasant. For one thing, Y98 was there and they walked up and down the line handing out Krispy Kreme donuts to everyone. Oh yeah, about that picture on the left— after I purchased our tickets I was directed to go to the lobby and when I got there I was told I could have my picture taken with 2 of the fabulous Rockettes. Who am I to pass up an opportunity to become a “Stu Sandwich” with beautiful women on each side of me? This job definitely has its perks!

KILLING TWO BIRDS We had a problem— at the intersection of Hawks Landing Circle and Hawks Landing Boulevard were some high grasses that were occasionally obscuring oncoming traffic that turned into the parking lot on the south side of the road. We had another problem; kind of a dull looking flat landscape area left of the pool house with mulch that blew into the pool on windy days. We moved the high grasses up to that bed, shifted some boxwoods, and added a stone perimeter, and voila! Two problems solved simultaneously. PINK FLAMINGOES MIGRATE AT HERITAGE OF HAWK RIDGE
There’s a cute little custom that has sprung up at HHR. When someone has a birthday pink flamingoes mysteriously appear in their front yard. According to the “tradition” the person with the flamingoes in their yard is supposed to store them until someone else has a birthday, then sneak them onto their front yard. In the picture on the left the flamingoes have landed in Evelyn Austin’s yard to celebrate her birthday on October 18th. Someone also placed a huge box next to one of the flamingoes that said, “Deposit Gifts Here”. At least these birds don’t mess up like geese. NEW TRADITION CONTINUES Last year at HHR we started a new tradition of trimming our tree with personalized ornaments that our residents donated. In some cases people signed and dated their ornaments on the back, and some people wrote on the front of their ornaments. New residents are invited to contribute a personalized ornament to our resident tree. We will trim the tree on November 28th (Sunday). All are invited. Stop by the clubhouse and see this beautiful display table publicizing the 2nd “Cup of Christmas Tea” on December 5th at 2:00 pm. Speaker, artist, author, Peggy Nickles created the display. She will read passages from her book “The Family Christmas Tree” and singing a song titled, “Heirlooms.” Refreshments will be served. Sign-ups for this event will be distributed next month. All ladies of HHR and their guests are invited to attend this fun seasonal activity. BELATED WEDDING ANNIVERSARY WISHES Belated wedding anniversary wishes are extended to Carol & Larry Knopfel married on Oct. 20th
