"BOB HEUAY DISCOVERED IN JEANETTE HAGE’S BED!"

Last month Jeanette Hage went into Missouri Baptist Hospital and following surgery was in the Intensive Care Unit. Right after she was discharged, Bob Heuay was admitted to Missouri Baptist Hospital, and by a strange coincidence ended up in the same room and bed that Jeaneatte had just vacated. This was reported by Jeanette’s sister Andree Wayman. We are glad that both of our residents are back home and doing great.

BLOCK CAPTAINS

We would like to thank Marilyn Gentemann and Sandy Aubuchon for serving as block captains. We would also like to thank Judy Koehr and Dave Williams for becoming new block captains. Lastly, thanks to Steph Hempel, Huguette Duff, Karen Singleton, Shirley Barnes, who are our other block captains. Block captains distribute our newsletters and other special bulletins and in the Spring they serve breakfast in bed to each resident on their block.

Thank you’s - To All Our Friends at
Heritage of Hawk Ridge

A big thank you for all the wonderful cards of encouragement, the flowers, and the dinners sent to me in the hospital and at home. This California girl made the right decision to move to Missouri. It’s such a great feeling to be part of this warm family. Things are moving forward and I progress daily.

Affectionately,
Jeanette Hage

We appreciate your thoughtfulness more than we can say. Thanks for everything.

From Stu's Desk or Somewhere Under It

It’s been wonderful serving as your recreation director, property manager, security personnel supervisor, and janitor for these past two years, but alas, I must now say a sad goodbye to all of my friends. Recently, I decided to pursue a life long dream and will be leaving here at the end of the month to join the circus. First, I will attend Clown College in Venice, Florida where I’ll be schooled in the fine art of buffoonery, juggling, and merriment. I’ll be fitted for size 16 clown shoes, and will be given my own special “face” which will be listed with the International Clownage Registry. As many of you may already know, each clown has their own distinct and unique makeup for their clown face. I can’t wait to put on my rubber nose. It was kind of a shock to my wife Mary Rose, when I announced I would be leaving her and the dogs and cats and my son Josh, to become a clown with the circus. Someday I hope she will understand. When I told her of my decision she was of course heartbroken and could barely contain her hysteria as she told me, “not to let the door hit my --- on the way out.” I take with many wonderful memories of my time shared with you, and I know I will miss the little pitter patter of senior footsteps in the clubhouse. Now if you’ve read this message you’re probably saying to yourself, “He’s finally flipped - the stress finally pushed him over the edge”. Actually, this and many other little items in this April Fool’s Day edition of our newsletter make up a contest. Go through this newsletter and write down every mistake that you spot, every thing that seems a little too ridiculous to be true. The person who discovers the most intentional mistakes will win a prize. HINT: The lead story about Bob Heuay and Jeannette Hage is true! The contest ends April 15th. Turn in your entry to the office.

Good luck, your pal Stu.

Whoa Baby!

More News From the Bunker! The grass is growing again! Happens every year.  Great to see the golf season starting up again.  I like the winters in St. Louis, it¹s just that they are about two or three  months too long.

Distance Markers 101

Each T box has a metal plate indicating the distance to the center of the green, red for the ladies (forward T is more PC),  while white and blue are used for the middle and back T boxes, respectively.  When I placed the plates in the ground, I used three different laser devices to determine the distance.  I compared these to the architectural drawings for the course and found them to be very close.  Well, my daughters chipped in and bought me a GPST ( global positioning system thingy)  as a Christmas gift, so I thought  I¹d use it to check  the distances, as well.  According to the GPS readings the laser measurements were fairly accurate, all agreeing within one to three yards, for the 6 or 7 I randomly checked.  So I think the course is fairly well marked.

In addition to the distance written in large black numbers on the metal plates there are also two smaller numbers.  On the #5 white  marker, for example there are three numbers, 151 in the center of the plate, +6 at the top of the plate and -6 at the bottom of the plate.  This means it is 151 yards from the metal plate to the center of the green (white flag used), 157 yards to a typical back of the green flag position (blue flag used) and 145 yards to a typical front of the green flag position (red flag).  This system works out fairly well for this course excepting for the ladies T on number 6.  The T box is so far off to the side that only the distance to the center of the green has much meaning, but even that can be pretty far off, if the white flag is way to the right or left. Use your best judgment for distance on this T box.

Since I had the GPS device with me I decided to drive the cart path to see exactly what that distance was. So, for our walkers and joggers,  this is 1.52 miles.

Speaking of distance, Kathy & I have purchased a new home that is too far a drive for me to commute to Hawks Ridge any longer.  The 1400 mile trip from Sun Lakes, Arizona is just too much. So this is my last News From the Bunker.  I¹ve enjoyed getting to know some of the residents here and will remember my time spent here fondly.

Best Regards and Best Wishes, Al Wagner

Attention Golfers!
If you hear an air horn while on the course then please come in. Bob, Jerry, or Al will signal if it is unsafe to stay on the course if weather conditions warrant it.

Introducing John Steiniger, who will be working in the pro-shop. John brings many years of experience to the job and we’re happy to have him join the HHR family.

Asst. Recreation Director, John Pellerito, appears to be getting rid of a hair ball at the St. Pat’s
dinner dance party.

Stephanie Hempel and Bob Bell, came to the party, and did quite well, Bobby won money, 2nd party in a row, but Steph won some golf balls, don’t you know?

Betty Rubble enjoying a dance with Fred Flintstone at our St. Pat’s dinner dance.

Bubbles and Perky Singleton share the HHR Secret Handshake at the St. Pat’s Dance.
Judy and Vince Koehr go through the buffet line which featured oysters on the half shell, sushi, fresh East Coast Gefilte Fish, and bagels with a schmear of cream cheese. Desserts included cake, baklava, flan, and herring in wine sauce.
It’s never too late to be
what you might have been
Our special thanks to Judy Markham, who volunteered to sell 50/50 Raffle tickets at the St. Pat’s Dance. Half of the $90 collected was given as a prize, and the other half of the prize money was donated to the St. Joseph’s Home for Wayward Beagles.
Seen above, Judy is dancing with Ray, the guys she’s lived with for lo these many years. Few people realize that Ray plays the gazinter, as well as being an accomplished dancer. He regaled us with an Irish Reel at the St. Pat’s Dinner Dance.

Georgy Rock Rocks!
At our Blue Jean Concert on Feb. 28th Georgy Rock and Mr. Dill (who was named after a pickle) performed jazz and blues songs. Bob Dill played 8 different instruments, and performed with his own pre-recorded sound tracks. We found out that Georgy Rock is the daughter of George Rock who used to be in the Spike Lee Band, and who recorded “All I want for Chanukah is a condo in Miami.” In addition to singing Georgy read us a bed time story by John Lithglow

Lucky John Hunt is about to roll a strike in the “mystery frame” that won him a free lunch during our golf outing on March 11th. John has won a free lunch twice before, and at that time he had to bowl 3 strikes in a row to win. Congrats!

Mayer School of Irish Dance performed at the St. Pat’s Dinner Dance and were terrific!

Jeanne Brown and the “Glee Club” perform several Irish songs at the St. Pat’s dinner dance, and then we had an audience sing-a-long. From left to right are - Front row: Laverne Meyers, Ellen O’Coin, Pat Roberts, Steph Hempel. Back row: Tom Gil, Gary McCullough, Jennifer Lopez, Annie Pick, Gayle Cattau, and Don Roberts. Our chorus did a beautiful job of singing and it’s really great having them perform at parties. They only had about 2 weeks notice to prepare and they did great. After the dance was over several members of the Glee Club were in the lobby to sign autographs and sell their new cd: “It Feels Like Arthritis, But It’s Just My Spouse.” A world tour of Wentzville, O’Fallon, and New Melle is planned for the Spring.
