John & Barbara Hunt were two of nearly 80 residents and guests who
attended our New Year’s Eve Party. The theme was “Cruising into 2004” and
the decorating committee outdid themselves turning the lobby into a ship’s
boarding area. They even convinced rec director Stu Cassell to dress as a
ship’s captain (see picture below).
Annie Pick made cute signs which she placed all over the clubhouse to
further create a cruise ship’s atmosphere.

Canaries of Hawk
Ridge
The
newly organized Canaries of Hawk Ridge went caroling in the
neighborhood on December 22 on behalf of the St. Louis Christmas Carol
Association. All monies collected for this association will be distributed
among some 50 charities in the St. Louis area. The Canaries collected an
amazing $264.00. Thanks to all who were so generous! The 20 carolers ended
the evening at Gary and Pat Turner’s where they enjoyed delicious
Christmas treats. The Canaries will continue to meet on the first and
third Sundays at 7:00 p.m. in the Clubhouse. We’ll be singing lots of love
songs, as Valentine’s Day will soon be here. If you like to sing and you
like to have fun, come and join us!

WIN A FREE GOLF MEMBERSHIP!
We are selling raffle tickets to raise money for our Clubhouse
Defibrillator Fund. The tickets are $10 each, and you may buy as many as
you like and if you win you may give the membership to someone as a gift.
If you already have a 2004 Golf Membership, then you will receive credit
for a 2005 Golf Membership. This prize is good for one person to play
Unlimited Weekday/Weekend Golf at our Heritage of Hawk Ridge Golf Club.
Tickets are on sale at the clubhouse, and the drawing will take place at
the February 14th at the Valentine’s Day Dance. You need not be present to
win.
DEFIBRILLATOR FUND
We have kicked off several fund raisers so that we can raise enough
money to buy a defibrillator for the clubhouse. Studies have shown that
these portable devices can make the difference between saving someone’s
life following a heart attack or having them die. The machine will give
audible instructions on what to do, and even determine if it is necessary
or not. Below left is a picture of a table that Pat Goddard set up for
items donated for our Silent Auction. We are also holding 50/50 raffles at
all our dances. Our current total is a little over $100. We will need
between $1500 - $2000. Once we purchase the Defibrillator we will hold
classes to demonstrate it’s use.
THE LADY HAWKES GOLF LEAGUE
The Lady Hawkes Golf League will meet in the Golf Pro Shop
February 27th at 11:00 AM for a general membership meeting. All interested
residents & non-residents are encouraged to attend. You may register at
this time. The Golf League will commence on April 2nd, and initially golf
will be played each Friday at 10:00 am. The league play will continue
until Oct. 22nd.

Bowling News
Don Roberts & Roger Richert each won a free lunch when we went bowling on
January 8th. Don did it by rolling 3 spares in a row, and Roger did it
with 3 strikes in a row. He also rolled a 4th strike after winning lunch.
Several of the ladies came very close to winning lunches as well. The
bowlers ate a delicious lunch at Imperial Palace.
Fast Eddie’s
Shown are a group of HHR residents that enjoyed delicious CHEAP food at
Fast Eddie’s Bon Air in Alton, Illinois. Following lunch, the group went
to the Alton Belle Casino. Rick Wolz was the big winner - he took home
almost $200 which he won playing Blackjack. After the gambling we drove up
the River Road, spotted a few bald eagles, then drove through Grafton
where we stopped for ice cream & fudge before riding the ferry.

March Book Selection “Girl in Hyacinth Blue” - By Susan Vreeland
We are all neighbors:
“All of us, at some time or other, need help. Whether we’re
giving or receiving help, each one of us has something valuable to bring
to this world. That’s one of the things that connects us as neighbors - in
our own way, each of us is a giver and a receiver.” - The Washington Post

STRANGERS IN THE
NIGHT …EXCHANGING GLANCES
This is such a great picture of Don Roberts and John Fairhurst that
you could really write your own headline or caption. Here are a few of
mine:
“No! I’m going to lead!”
“You know John, I never noticed before what pretty eyes you have”
“My broker is E.F. Hutton”
“Hey Big Boy, you come here often?”
“Do you think anyone notices us?”
“What’s a nice boy like you
doing in a joint like this?”
“I’m not wearing a bra!”
“If we win, don’t kiss me!”
I guess we need to explain, Don & John ended up together during one of
our spirited “Spoon Dances” at the New Year’s Eve Party. What a riot! |
