From Stu's Desk or somewhere near it!

Our first public attended event the Spring Dance on April 19th was a resounding success. For starters most of our guests were from Lake St. Louis. Several of our residents used to live there and got a chance to visit with former neighbors. It was a fun evening full of surprises. I didn’t realize my wife Mary Rose was going to get up and sing some songs with the band. She sounded great, and the band’s lead singer who had a sore throat was appreciative. I’m sure Mary Rose didn’t realize I was going to play the guitar with the band either, since it wasn’t really something I had planned or rehearsed. Our guests got a sample of what party life is like at HHR, and seemed to enjoy it. From the “Spoon Dance” to the “Let’s Make A Deal” Prize give aways, they joined the spirit of the evening. Everyone came to have fun, and I heard that the next day one of the couples attending signed a contract on a new home! My thanks to Mary Rose for helping me with last minute preparations and for helping me put things away and clean up after the dance.

Golfing
The Ladies Golf League met on Friday, April 4th at 10 am at the Pro Shop. They decided to play before their meeting to beat the rain. 10 ladies in groups of 4 teed off and played nine holes. At the meeting they elected officers and ironed out a few issues. They also adopted a name for their league - The Lady Hawkes Golf League. Present at the meeting were Annie Pick, Jeanette Hage, Janet Cook, Mary Williams, Mo Uhle, Karen Singleton, Susan Shirley, Jan Belle, Joan LaVanchy, and Andree Wayman. Officers elected were: President, Andree Wayman, Secretary, Jeanette Hage, and Treasurer, Annie Pick. They will form committees as membership increases and there is a need for them. They will be meeting at 10 am on Fridays to play golf until the weather gets warmer and then they will begin at 8 am. All ladies are welcome! They will hold one meeting per month. Members will be notified if special meetings are required. Next meeting will be May 2, 2003 at 10 am at the Pro Shop.

Putting Contest  - Winners Stand Tall!
Leslie Kaiser came in 1st place among the ladies, and her hubby Don Kaiser, came in first among the men. Karen Singleton hit the closet ball to the 9th hole for the ladies, and Lowell Barnes for the men. Lowell also came in 2nd place overall in the men’s division. Bob Bell place 3rd. Congratulations to our winners!

From the Bunker
Derek and I have made improvements to several holes and hope they add to your enjoyment. As more people play, any golf course can show several kinds of wear and tear. One source of deterioration is soil compaction due to the use of golf carts. To reduce this damage we’ve limited cart use to cart path only on all holes. That means keep all four wheels on the path at all times! If this is not practical for you due to any physical condition, ask Bob or Jerry for a handicap flag to mark your cart. You will then not be restricted to the cart path, but still need to keep carts 20 yards from the greens. Also please keep carts on the path when near tee boxes. If you have any questions ask Jerry or Bob at the desk or give me a call at 636-625-3186. Thanks for your cooperation. Al Wagner

Wild Life - par for the course!
This huge 2 foot long snapping turtle likes to travel back and forth between the pond and the lake. The 3 foot non-poisonous snake was sunning himself along the lake near the red tee on 6. Watch your step!

Happy Hour at the Pro Shop!
Jim Waugh, Garth Wayman, Phil Lucido, and Lowell Barnes know how to have a good time. They joined about 15 other residents for Happy Hour in the Pro-Shop. Leah is seen behind the counter serving beer and wine. Residents brought lots of great food to share, and Stu showed up with Imo’s Pizza. Happy Hours have become a tradition at Heritage of Hawk Ridge, and now that the weather is getting nice, that Pro Shop patio looks very inviting for an afternoon snack or drink.

Oscar Party is an Award Winner
Click on image for larger version in a new window.

Our apologies for that terrible pun in the title. Our Oscar Party on Sunday March 30th was a huge success. We had a pot luck dinner with tons of delicious food, and residents enjoyed talking, playing cards, shooting pool, and noshing on delicious food. One of the great things about life at Heritage of Hawk Ridge are the new friendships that spring up from coming together for events, activities, and classes. These two buddies on the right are Annie Pick and Pat Goddard, who both define what the term “active senior” truly means. In warmer weather Annie is frequently seen swimming laps in our heated pool, and is part of Pat’s 4 some that plays tennis every Wednesday morning. Cute outfits ladies!

Among over 40 residents that enjoyed our Academy Award party were the fun folks on the left: the lovely Shirley Barnes, the charming Lowell Barnes, the irrepressible Jerry Brown, the effervescent Joe O’Coin, the vivacious Ellen O’Coin, the talented Sharon Rhodes, the dapper Gary Rhodes, and seen in the background, the unsinkable Janet Cook. Pat Goddard had the most correct Oscar Winner predictions and won a certificate for dinner for two at the Olive Garden.
