A Few Last Chances for Outdoor Fun

Garth Wayman took advantage of the unseasonably mild temperatures along with Pat Goddard at the end of November to play some tennis. As late as December 21st we saw golfers enjoying some unusually warm weather too.

From Stu's Desk or somewhere near it!

On January 9th I will celebrate my one year anniversary as Activities Director/Property Manager at Heritage of Hawk Ridge. It’s been a year filled with mostly highs, and like any other job, a few lows, but nothing that has left me permanently scarred or frigid (I threw that in to see if anyone is actually reading this).

When I started here there was nothing in place; just a vast recreational wasteland and a big clubhouse still under construction. And the Lord said, “Let there be fun” and there was, and it was good.

Since May 2002 we have had a

  • Grand Opening Dinner Party,
  • Cinco De Mayo Taco Luncheon,
  • Mother’s Day Ice Cream Social,
  • Lobster Dinner featuring the St. Louis Strutters,

  • A half dozen donut socials,
  • A half dozen movie matinee and evening shows,
  • Fishing at Heritage,
  • Happy Hours with entertainment at the Pro-Shop,
  • Resident pot luck tree trimming Happy Hour,
  • And the publication of a monthly newsletter.
  • We’ve also held 2 Town Meetings
  • An evening with our Lake St. Louis Aldermen,
  • Formation of our bulletin newsletter distribution network (block captains, Annie Pick, Andree Wayman, Karen Singleton, and Marilyn Gentemann),
  • And creation of a Hospitality Chairperson (Andree Wayman) who distributes information to new residents.

Not bad for the first 9 months in the clubhouse! My thanks to everyone who made my first year such a memorable one. I am looking forward to what the next year will bring.

Golfing News

There’s nothing more relaxing
than a fun round of golf.

The golf course is closed until March (exact opening will depend on the weather) The Pro-Shop will be closed from January 1st through January 15th since we’ve given Leah “time off for good behavior.”

We would like to thank Leah Kinsey for the outstanding job she did this past year operating the grill, and for her outdoor BBQ’s during golf tournaments, and her help with Happy Hours and Clubhouse decorations. Also, a special thank you to the lovely and talented Don Poston who booked the tee times and operated the golf store.

Yoga continues to be a very popular class with the residents. Here, instructor Diane Rabe is seen leading the ladies in a series of stretching exercises designed to make them more limber and stronger.
A picture of some of the ornaments our residents made for the clubhouse Christmas Tree. A luncheon was organized by Carol Richert, with help from Annie Pick, Janet Cattau, and Pat Goddard, and everyone had fun and made beautiful ornaments.

Judy Marks and Jeanette Hage decorate the Christmas tree at the Happy Hour Dec. 6th
Gary McCullough is joined by his daughter Susan at our Holiday Karaoke on Dec. 21st.
Our new stage where bands and other forms of entertainment will perform.

We would like to thank Lynda Schwartz for organizing the toy drive for children of incarcerated parents sponsored by the Living Lord Lutheran Church of Lake St. Louis. A letter of appreciation and thanks from Roy Christell, the Senior Pastor of the Church, has been posted on the bulletin board in the Arts & Crafts room. Thank you Lynda and all the people who donated toys for this worthy cause.

Your Help Would Be Appreciated!

Please do not move, remove, alter or change anything in the clubhouse without checking with the Activities Director, Stu Cassell first.

Right now we have about 70 residents living here - some day that number may exceed 600. Can you imagine what things would be like if various groups that had their own agendas decided to make changes as each of them saw fit?

Also, while donations are appreciated this is another area where we ask that you check with Stu first before bringing something to leave at the clubhouse. Issues related to storage, current and future space constraints, as well as insurance issues may preclude the acceptance of such generous gifts.

By definition a community requires compromise, accommodation, and acceptance of the fact that not everyone is going to like everything all of the time. We just ask for a little tolerance when you find something that may differ from your own individual  tastes. The idea here is to have FUN isn’t it?
