Their Balls Weren't the Only Thing Red in Recent Bocce Ball Tournament!

When Mike Cook and Bob Bell teamed up to compete in the September 29th Bocce Ball Tournament, they surprised everyone by appearing in color coordinated outfits.

Whether it was loyalty to the St. Louis Cardinals, or a clever attempt to psyche out their opponents, it worked pretty well. The guys came in 2nd place and won trophies.

Bocce Ball Tournament  - Sept. 29, 2002

Annie Pick and Al Schwartz came in first place in the team division, with Bob Bell and Mike Cook coming in second. Mike Cook was the individual bocce ball champion, and the second place individual champion was Annie Pick. They are seen above with their trophies and Bocce Blush Wine. Congratulations to all the winners and participants of this fun event

From Stu's Desk or somewhere near it!

If you’re like me and my wife Mary Rose, sometimes you have to force yourself to leave your “comfort zone” and try something you may have never done before. I can’t think of one time that I did that and regretted it - it’s just hard to get started because the things we are most familiar with are the things we’re most comfortable doing. But it’s kind of like what we told our kids at the dinner table - “try it, you may be surprised.” (I guess our kids don’t like surprises judging by how picky they are about foods). My point is this, give yourself a chance to experience something new - take a risk!

More than a few residents have told me that at first they were reluctant to take one of the bus trips, but after they tried one, they realized how much fun they are. For example on our last Casino trip, Jeanette Hage fascinated us with a colorful joke that had everyone on the floor with laughter. (I had to ask them to return to their seats). Jim Singleton found out that I named a shortcut that he showed me on a previous trip “The Jim Singleton Memorial Shortcut”. My wife pointed out that it should probably be called “The Jim Singleton Honorary Shortcut” since as far as we know, Jim is still alive (oops!).

Be adventurous, it could be fun and fascinating!

Golfing News

There’s nothing more relaxing
than a fun round of golf.

WOW!

Wayne Stewart, son of Leal and Augusta Stewart defied the odds on October 2nd when he got a hole in one during morning play on #4, and another one in the afternoon on #7.

RECORD CROWDS at GOLF SCRAMBLE

Phil Lucido is getting ready to tee off on the first green. The October 12th Resident/Guest Golf Scramble had almost 30 golfers participating. Above right: Don and Leslie Kaiser have just received their trophies for coming in First Place. This was the second tournament in a row that the skillful couple has won. Lowell Barnes and his guest came in second place.

Almost 50% of our current resident population attended the 2nd Happy Hour we had at the Pro-Shop on October 18th. Like before, we offered free appetizers, reduced wine and beer prices, and live entertainment. Let’s thank Leah Kinsey and Don Poston, and Steve Stockhausen for all of their work in putting together these fun events. Violinist Jeremy Brown provided the music.
