Please note that the departure time for the trip to the Ameristar Casino and Lunch has been changed to 1:00 pm so as not to interfere with the Tap Dancing Class.

The starting time for the Halloween Party is 6:30 instead of 7:00 pm to give people a chance to visit before the magician begins his act at 7:00 pm. The management thanks you for your understanding and patience when he has a mental brain lapse.

Bearded Hula Dancer Surprises All!

When 5 female residents came back for an encore of their wonderful hula, they were joined by a 6th dancer who sported a coconut bra and beard. More about the fun Luau in this issue.

Dinner Cruise - September 19, 2002

Jeanette Hage suggested this off site excursion and it was a wonderful idea! Pictured at the left are Pat and Jim Chinook and Karen and Jim Singleton standing in front of the St. Charles Princess that we boarded for an evening of great food, music, and lots of laughs. We had the entire upper deck to ourselves, and enjoyed a delicious buffet dinner of turkey and beef with a great salad and cheesecake and carrot cake for dessert. Our hostess kept bringing out free drinks in miniature martini glasses which Annie Pick saved for a future party. 14 of us went and everyone agreed it was a wonderful evening.

Inside the store where you could purchase wine and lunch at Balducci’s Winery in Augusta, Mo.We had originally planned on going to Stone Hill Winery but only a few people signed up for that day trip. Then Huguette Duff suggested we change to Balducci’s Winery and we did and ended up taking nearly a full bus load of residents there. It was a perfect day, sunny, not hot, and the 30 minute ride there was quite pleasant. There are always lots of laughs on our bus rides. Once we got to Balducci’s our group sampled wines, then ordered lunch which we ate outside while listening to the music of Mark Gordon. Seen at the wine shop above are: Huguette Duff, Stephanie Hempel, Dave Williams, and in the background is Jeanette Hage.

Pictured here: Andree & Garth Wayman, & Jeanette Hage enjoy the buffet dinner.

From Stu's Desk or somewhere near it!

In September we had our first “resident generated” event, and it was a total success.

We had close to 50 people attending, and except for me buying some decorations and helping with the setup and cleanup, Jeanette Hage, Annie Pick, Andree and Garth Wayman, Stephanie Hempel, Fran Lucido, Judy Markham, Karen Singleton, and Pat Goddard did all the preparation for the Luau.

Food was purchased and prepared, and 5 of our ladies even danced the hula. We had a live band and a hula hoop contest, and Shirley Barnes, one of our future residents won it.

I always welcome your ideas and whenever possible try to schedule events that reflect your interests and suggestions. We have some fun parties coming up in the months ahead. This month we’ll celebrate Halloween by turning the card room into a “spook house” and will be entertained by a magician and a fortune teller. In November we’re having a catered Greek dinner and two belly dancers.

At the end of December we’ll hold our own New Year’s Eve bash with a live band and champagne at midnight.

Don’t forget our Pro Shop Happy Hours. The first one was a huge success with free appetizers, half price drinks, and live entertainment by C. Felton.

Fun! - that’s the name of the game!

LUAU - Sept. 7, 2002

Andree Wayman, Stephanie Hempel, Annie Pick, Karen Singleton, and Jeanette Hage performed the Hula for us at the Hawaiian Luau. They received thunderous applause and were implored to do an “encore”. It was definitely one of the highlights of an extremely memorable and fun evening we’ll not soon forget.
